OFFICE OF THE VICE PRESIDNET

The Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) under the Office of the Vice President wishes to inform the public that the construction of an Acrow Bridge at Mphamba Bridge in Lundazi District has experienced a slight delay.
The project, originally scheduled for completion yesterday, has been delayed due to persistent heavy rains in the area, which has significantly slowed construction progress. At present, approximately five (5) metres of the bridge remains to be completed before it can be safely opened to the public.
The Mphamba Bridge was washed away following heavy rains experienced in the area on 26th December, 2025, which disrupted road connectivity and adversely affected the movement of people and goods. The damage to the bridge prompted immediate intervention measures to restore access and safeguard the safety and livelihoods of the affected communities.
Following the incident, the Vice President of the Republic of Zambia, Dr. W.K Mutale Nalumango visited the area and directed that an Acrow Bridge be urgently constructed. The Road Development Agency (RDA), working in collaboration with other cooperating partners, was tasked to complete the construction within a period of seven (7) days, ending yesterday.
Relevant authorities and contractors remain on site and are making every effort to complete the remaining works as soon as weather conditions improve. The public is advised to exercise caution and use alternative routes where possible until the bridge is officially opened to traffic.
Further updates will be communicated in due course.
